We go on a picnic to visit salmon hatchery in Capilano River.
It's very close to our house, so we can walk there.

There is nice trail to lead us to hatchery.
We enjoy walking.

We reach to the river.We saw some fishermen.
We were excited very much.
We should have brought our fishing rod.

There are many coho salmons here. We can see them.
They rise up to the surface to eat flies.

Now, we visit salmon hatchery.
We are very curious about it.
In my country, there are many salmon hatcheries.
I know they play a important role to sustain fisheries.

But I don't agree with it completely.
Because I don't think it's a only way to conserve salmon stocks.

In the case of Capilano River, there is a hydroelectric dam in the upper reaches, so natural spawning seems to be difficult.

But if they rebuild the ideal natural environment instead of building hatchery,I think it's better way.
Because salmons not only go up to spawn but also carry many kind of nutrient in their body.
So, salmons also play a important role by running to the upper reaches.

I always feel bad when I see salmons trying to jump over man-made weir.
